John Lloyd Cruz gets to work with Maricar Reyes for the third time in the upcoming action-fantaserye Imortal. “Ayaw niya nga ako lubayan e, ha ha ha!,” he joked with reporters during the press visit to the set of the drama.
Maricar made her acting debut in the teleserye I Love Betty La Fea where she played John Lloyd’s childhood sweetheart. Early this year, the two were in the romantic film Miss You Like Crazy. According to John Lloyd, he instantly noticed the acting potential in Maricar when they worked on Betty La Fea. “Dati ko pa talagang nakikitaan ng depth ‘yan sa Maricar sa pag-arte. Napakadali niyang ka eksena kasi rehearsal pa lang dama mo na siya.”
Hailed by fans and critics as the best actor of his generation, John Lloyd talked about how he feels happy to have been a part of Maricar’s rise in showbiz; the actress started out as a commercial-print ad model before becoming one of the most in-demand leading ladies. “I’m excited for her kasi hindi rin biro ‘yun makasama mo lagi ‘yung isang tao sa mga project. Masaya ako na maging part ng growth na nasusubaybayan ng mga tao sa kanya bilang artista. I’m very happy na madalas ko siyang makasama,” shared the actor.
With the action-fantasy theme of Imortal, the plot of which revolves around the centuries-old war between vampires and werewolves, the lead stars have to do several fight scenes. John Lloyd, who is known more for doing romance-drama, admitted that he found doing action scenes in Imortal very exhausting. However, he is in awe of how Maricar handled her action scenes much better. “‘Yung mga fight scenes mahirap talagang gawin kasi madaming shots na kailangan. Physically draining talaga. Meron nga kaming ginawang fight scene ni Maricar. After that nag-segue ako sa isang eksena pero puro talk na lang ‘yun. Si Maricar the whole day fight scenes ang ginagawa niya. Kaya after nun tulog na siya, parang patay, ha ha ha!”
