Kris Aquino on James Yap: 'We stopped loving each other a long time ago'

For Kris Aquino, if ever her marriage with James Yap would be proven null and void, she would consider it as destiny. “Siguro regalo na ‘yan ng tadhana sa aming dalawa,” said Kris, who recently spoke up about her breakup with the basketball player. She added that she will also learn her lesson, which is to make sure that in the future, she would not keep her marriage from her family anymore. Kris was married in secret with the cager, witnessed only by close friends.

In her exclusive interview with Boy Abunda, Kris also called on James not to include former president Cory Aquino in the issue. In his official statement, James stated that he would salvage his marriage with Kris because he made a promise to the former president to take care of his marriage with Kris. “Mom was so good to you, huwag mo nang idamay ang Mom, nakikiusap ako kasi nananahimik na si Mom sa langit,” Kris asked.

She also shared that she asked her siblings’ permission to say on air that she tried for three and a half years to save her marriage with James. They are married a total of five. “I gave it my best and I have no bitterness in my heart. Walang halong kaplastikan ‘yan,” said Kris.

She admitted that she and James know what contributed to their marriage’s failure. “Naubos ‘yung kagustuhan ko to make it work. I was miserable and I’m sure… I’ll address it to James, huwag kang mahiyang aminin na ikaw din miserable,” she called on to James. “Antagal-tagal na nating hindi maligaya sa piling ng isa’t isa. Antagal na nating co-existing in one house but having no communication.”

When she was vacationing in the US with her kids, Kris revealed that she received a text message from James saying that he has realized his mistakes but Kris responded that it was too late to save the marriage. “It ended because napagod na ako pretending that everything was okay . . . we stopped loving each other a long time ago,” Kris revealed. “I’m honest enough to admit it, I wish he could be honest enough to also admit it. Masyado kaming maraming pagkakaiba sa personalidad na umabot sa point (na) James want to be James, I want to be Kris.”
